About
Wolfgat Nature Reserve is the perfect destination for picnicking, fishing and paragliding. For safety reasons, all activities must take place in groups. The views from the Wolfgat Nature Reserve are spectacular from its limestone cliffs.
The reserve is named after the brown hyena or strandwolf (Hyaenabrunnea), which occurred in Cape Town around the 1840s. A brown hyena fossil den site dating back to about 45 000 years ago was found in the Wolfgat cliffs in 1962.
An education officer is available to assist schools with field trips for groups of 30-40 learners. Larger groups can take part in special programmes such as coastal hikes and clean-up campaigns. Bookings are essential.
